Alexandrite
Alexandrite was once described as ‘an emerald by day, a ruby by night’. This magical gemstone has the ability to change colour from green in daylight to red under candle light.
Alexandrite was first discovered in 1830 in the Ural mountains of Russia, and as the imperial colours of Russia were red and green, it instantly became a jewel for royalty. Alexandrite is usually found in small sizes – stones over three carats are very rare.
